Backup Servers

The (relatively) new backup servers currently backup most directories on /physics (everything on the first file server lnx00f), as well as a select few computers around BOM. If you have a realm machine that you would like backed up, I can easily add it to the backup server. Non-realm machines can still be backed up, but need the backup software installed first. Laptops are tricky, but can still be done (they may miss a backup if they're not connected to the NCSU network.)

Full backups are done every Wednesday night, and incremental backups every other night. Backed up file are kept for a minimum of two weeks.

Any computer to be backed up needs to have a real world ip address (nothing behind the firewall). Requests can be emailed into pyhelp at pams dot ncsu dot edu.

Restores

If you've deleted a file or otherwise want to pull some files off of the backup server, email the request to pyhelp at pams dot ncsu dot edu. Include the computer the files were originally on (if /physics, specify that), the full path to the files, and a date, which will indicate the newest version of the file to retrieve as of that date.
