Realm Workstations

Most all of the workstations in BOM are Realm Workstations. They are mostly Dell computers, installed with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, and customized for the NCSU environment. On these machines, one has access to everything a normal NCSU linux workstation has, plus access to the /physics home directories, as well as all the additional software that I've installed.

dali (bomlnx-ungrad00.physics.ncsu.edu)

A special high performance computer used for visualization. It is fitted with a dual monitor configuration.

bom00f.physics.ncsu.edu

The main file server, it hosts most of the directories on /physics. It is backed up regularly by lnx00bs.physics.ncsu.edu.

bom01f.physics.ncsu.edu

The second file server, this hosts a few directories on /physics, and is mainly used for data sets. It is not backed up currently.

astro.physics.nscu.edu (wonka.physics.ncsu.edu)

The webserver, it hosts webpages out of /physics/your_username/public_html/. They can be accessed through http://astro.physics.ncsu.edu/~your_username

lnx00bs.physics.ncsu.edu and lnx01bs.physics.ncsu.edu

The two backup servers currently back up everything on lnx00f, as well as many workstations around BOM. See about the backup servers.

astro-login.physics.ncsu.edu (aka darkone.physics.ncsu.edu and george.physics.ncsu.edu)

The firewall computer. This is the gateway computer that acts as a firewall and router for the wireless access points, as well as a few select offices. See the environment page for additional information under the firewall section
